Cruel though it might sound, but the Middle East terrorism, speaking about organizers - not bombers - is purely a mean of eternal political and economic struggle. More even economic than political. Simply said, money rules. Nothing but money. Direly, right?
Religious incentives are left to executors and fanatics, who are no more than just "tools", like the bombs they carry. Only faith, even false, is needed to push the button. But an accurate and hard-boiled computation needed in this context - it's already a task, feasable only with big money, men of weight with serious relations and interests involved.
Middle East is a rich area with people smart enough, and with a potential of economic and political growth. Now, just imagine yourself a powerful person who knows that, but who doesn't want that, because a strong and developed Middle East would be an interference, a competitor, and would hurt your interests. Your economic prosperity. Your money and power, in other words. Given there are more people like you, think about what you'd do to prevent that development. An open war? Not civilized. An internal moral disruption? Too long and complicate, maybe? To engore the area on the quiet to destabilize and make it weaker, like it's happening in Afghanistan? One would prefer the latest to achieve his tasks while staying in the shadow. There are always people ready for anything for money, especially in the field of making covert war, sabotage, terror... Am I wrong?
Religion itself, such as it is, initially exhorts to good thoughts and deeds, but like any other "instrument" in the Man's hand may benefit or become a weapon, depending on that Man. The nuclear weapon, the most destructive one, is rather political than military today, serves to maintain peace in the modern world.
As for religion, can you offer a "reward" for a religionist who's asked to blow himself up, better than an "eternal life in paradise"? As after his "exploit" he won't need money, wealth, other worldly goods anymore... I doubt you can. The main thing is to "tell stories" wisely enough, and religion will become a dangerous weapon for your mercantile objectives' achievement. What else besides religion, whose weight is so important in the Middle East, would be so effective as a tool for local people manipulating?
On the one hand, it's a matter of billions of billions of dollars, of a war between countries and nations (more exactly - between those who represent 1% of the Earth's population but rule the planet) for economic growth, global presence, extension, whatever... In a hurry to snatch a larger place in the sun, having recourse to any means, even to such a cowardly, blackguardly and unmanlike means as terrorism.
On the other hand (a bit of philosophy), neither of us, Humans, rich or poor, strong or weak, Islamite, Christian or ateist, must forget that he won't be able to take a single cent with him to the grave. Moreover, neither of us knows what's waiting for us after death, for everyone of us individually. Non-existence or another life. Only guesswork... Anyway, wouldn't it be reasonable to secure ourselves a bit and not to do nasty things, at least big ones...?
To strike a balance, it would come in very handy to remind that wars have always been made on Earth, every here and there, with swords or rockets, but terrorism seems to be the most craven and invalorous warfare.
